It is very important to notice that not all problems related to automatic
vehicle driving that still remain to be solved are of
technical nature: there are some aspects
that must be considered and carefully evaluated in the design
of such systems.
First of all, prior to having an automatic driving system sold and installed on a commercial vehicle, all the legal aspects related to the responsibility in case of faults and incorrect behavior of the system must be solved. Secondly, in case no specific roads are built and dedicated to automatic vehicles only, the possibility of driving on a motorway along with automatic vehicles must be considered and its impact on human drivers evaluated.
Although technical aspects seem to have a higher importance, these problems must be dealt with and solved as well, since they represent the basics and prerequisites on which future automatic highways will rely.
